I hope you all are fine and enjoying your life, recently after writing post on how to get rid of dark underarms, I got huge amount of questions and requests to write post on how to get rid of dark knees, so today I want to share some of my favourite home remedies for dark knees, I hope you like it.

When I was young, I don’t know why I get dark knees even I don’t play sports or I am not dirty as such but my friends always force me to use beauty products which never work for me, I always think why I have got dark knees then I came to know that because I literally travel all around the house with knees I mean I kneeling and rubbing my knees towards the ground that why I grow up I have dark knees, But this is a long time ago now I don’t have this problem because I try many natural treatments.

Causes:

When your skin start turning dark then don’t worry it’s not a sign of any serious skin disease, but sometimes it’s better to know that what making your knees  darker so you can avoid them next time.

I hope these causes which I written below may be the answer of your several questions like “why some people have dark knees and other don’t have?”

Cause:

  • Proper skin care: The way you take care of your skin shows its inner health, some people give more attention to their face, hands and feet instead of other body parts. Lack of personal care, washing, scrubbing and moisturization can cause our skin to build the dead skin cells which further cause skin darkening.
  • Kneeling your knees: This meant to be one of the biggest cause of skin darkening around your knees, continuously kneeling or rubbing your knees towards the hard surface or object makes them rough which leads to dark knees.
  • Sun exposure: Sun exposure not only darken our skin but also develop age spots and its only happen if you wear short clothes and forget to apply any sun block. UV sun rays can multiply the production of melanin on the skin which is the main cause of dark knees, so try to wear sunscreen every time you expose your body towards the sun and repeat the procedure after every 3 to 4 hours.
  • Frequent Friction: A latest report proof that our dedicated skin of knees and elbows may get dark due to the rough fabric we wear. surprisingly when you wear a rough fabric your skin constantly rub opposed to that, so that’s why we face dark knees earlier.

  • Medical conditions: There are also some medical issues which cause skin darkening, some pregnant women may face dark knees due to some changes in their hormones, by having these changes they notice dark skin anywhere on the body but mostly experience them on their knees or elbows. certain medicines are also responsible for darker knees especially the medicine tetracycline which is an anti-biotic mostly used for the acne treatment can also cause darker knees.

Symptoms:

  • Dark skin is as commonly known as hyperpigmentation, we mainly get our skin color due to a specific cell melanocytes and the latest studies shows that everyone have the same number of melanocytes in their skin tissue, the difference is in their size the larger they are the darker skin you get.
  • When you notice some change in your color its mean your body overproducing the cell melanin which is responsible for your skin color. At the first stage, you notice some brown or dark patches on the knee area then slowly it getting more darker. UV rays give a signal to our skin to overproduce the cell melanin, so try to keep your skin away from the sun.

Home Remedies to get rid of dark knees

1.) Baking soda to Cleaning the Skin

As baking soda is very effective for cleaning the skin, it reduces the dark kness of the skin, it is lot cheaper than any beauty product in the market, it is free from any chemical by putting it on your body it will not harm you a little bit. As baking soda is a natural cleanser, it help to get rid of any buildup. Milk has also a natural cleanser and has lightening properties due to the presence of lactic acid in it, it also help to clean our skin and remove any impurities, so mix both ingredients to lighten you the knee area.

Direction:

  • Take a bowl, now add one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of milk.
  • Mix it very well until it forms a thick paste, if requires at more milk.
  • Now apply and rub this paste on your knees for around 5 to 10 minutes in circular motion until this mask is fully dry,
  • After the 10 minutes wash it off with nice warm water. Repeat it every day, you can also make a paste of baking soda with water or lime if you don’t want to use milk.

This cleanser will not only help to clean, but it also have some extra lightening benefits because of the milk we are using.

Lemon is a natural exfoliant which helps to remove the dead skin cells and leave the skin smooth and soft, it has the natural bleach so it does help to lighten the skin tone. Honey has the moisturizing properties which help to get rid of the dry and rough skin.

Direction:

  • Take a mixing bowl, add one tablespoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of honey.
  • Mix it well, apply this generously to your skin as often as necessary, leave it for 20 minutes, after that wash it off with water.
  • To get even skin tone, you have to use this remedy daily.

  • Take a thick slice of cucumber and gently rub them to your knees for about 10 minutes.
  • Leave its juice for more 5 minutes, then wash it off with cold water, use this twice a day to lighten dark knees.
  • You can also mix equal amount of mash cucumber and honey, mix it well, apply this to your knees and leave it for 20 minutes, then wash it off with water.

4.) Gram flour and milk to get rid of dark knees

Gram flour and milk both are organic so it easily available at your home. As it’s the best home remedy, trust me it will give the best results you ever had any product which is currently available in the market. This homemade pack not only lighten your skin but also makes you skin super soft.

Direction:

  • For making this pack you need one tablespoon of gram flour, one tablespoon milk powder, half tablespoon of honey, half tablespoon lemon juice and two tablespoons of milk.
  • Now take a clean bowl and add gram flour, milk powder, honey and lemon juice in it, mix it together, on clean knees apply this mask using your finger.
  • After that apply a thin layer of milk on top of this mask in every 5 minutes, you have to make sure this mask should not be dry up. You have to keep this mask moist for around 20 minutes so that your first layer of dark skin can lighten easily.
  • It helps to completely remove the dark skin from your knees after 20 minutes massage this mask for around 5 minutes, you can use some extra milk if you think this mask is pretty dry for you.

  • Take some mash horseradish, apply it to your knees with the help of fingers.

  • For making orange peels powder, first of all, you need to dry them under the sun shade for at least 2 to 3 days.
  • When they are completely dried, grind them and in less than 5 minutes you get a fine powder.

  • Coming to the remedy, take 2 tablespoons of peel powder and mix it with milk (you can use water as well).
  • Mix them properly, when you get a thick paste, apply for it on your dark knees.

  • By using water rub this mixture, later on completely wash your knees, don’t need any soap or moisturizer if you use milk because it fully hydrates your knees.

  • Exfoliate your skin with this mixture then leave it for 30 minutes, after that do gentle massage and rinse off with water, after pat drying your knees moisturize well.

 

Some additional tips to prevent dark knees at home fast

  1. Drink lots of water almost 10 to 12 glasses of water help to flush out the toxin and gives you a healthy skin.
  2. Control or minimum your intake of sugary foods and processed foods such as white bread, soft drink and foods which are high in calories and sugar, these all type of foods cause darker skin.
  3. Don’t forget to apply a good sunscreen which has minimum 40 to 50 SPF to your exposed areas like face, hand and if you wear shorts then also apply on knees and legs. Regular usage of sunscreen helps you to prevent not your knees but every part of your skin from darkening, apply sunscreen even in cloudy days must use in hot summer and winters too.
  4. Wash your knees twice or thrice a day if possible, whenever you come from outside just wash your knees, face and hands first because it helps you to prevent not only from dirt but if you follow this routine you never ever see any acne breakout in your entire life.
  5. Don’t forget to apply a good moisturizer it not only moisturize or hydrate your skin but also prevent from dryness and reduces friction. Whenever you take a bath after that pat dry your body, don’t forget to apply a good moisturizer which contains Vitamin E and jojoba oil. Always apply moisturizer twice a day to prevent dryness and it helps to even your skin tone.
  6. As everyone knows what is pumice stone but did you use it? If not, then it’s the time to use it on your knees and feets. Take a warm shower, when your pores are fully opened, first wash the area with soap or body wash then use a pumice stone to get rid of dead skin which causing darkening. Gently rub the area in a circular motion every time you bath will prevent from darker knees and gives you an even skin tone which remains forever.
  7. Don’t ever use any bleaching cream or lotion it will temporarily lighten your skin but after a while your skin becoming more sensitive and darker due to the usage of bleaching skin so stay away from them.
  8. Did you know exfoliation and scrubbing too much important for your skin, for this purpose you can use any kind o exfoliating brush or a good loofah which specially design to exfoliate the rough  Use this while taking a bath because at that moment your skin is moist, take your favourite scrub or exfoliating body wash just add it your exfoliating brush or loofah and start rubbing in the circular motion for almost 4 to 5 minutes after that wash your skin properly.
  9. Remember one thing that never scrub too hard or harshly like a mad person, it makes your skin more sensitive and gives a signal to your skin to produce more cells in return it makes your skin extra rough, dry and dark I know you don’t want it so gently scrub your skin, if you are busy and don’t have much time to do it daily then don’t worry just do it twice a week.
  10. Try to avoid leaning your knees as I mention in above that it’s the biggest cause of dark knees so by avoiding it you should prevent from darker knees, leaning traps all the moisture from your knees makes it rough and hard which cause darkening.
  11. So can simply get rid of dark knees with pumpkin, simply mix some pumpkin puree with crush sugar, gently massage your knees for 5 minutes, then leave it more 10 minutes, after then rinse it off with warm water.
